When the chakra is out of balance we can feel confused
Trust your gut. Trust your intuition. Easier said than done. In our purest state, we already know the answers. We know right from wrong. We know how to act so that we feel awesome instead of horrible. Yet sometimes we choose to act in a way that does us harm. Somewhere along the line, we learned to trust everyone except ourselves. I consider that be one of life’s greatest tragedies.
Losing that connection you have with your own wisdom means instantly fighting a battle with yourself. I’ve fought my fair share of battles. I yelled and screamed and raged for years only to come out battered in both body and mind. Whatever you think you will gain from ignoring your truth, living a life that is not serving the highest form of who you are, it is not worth the sleepless nights and anxiety ridden days.
So how do we start the process of healing this relationship with our intuition? It's easiest to see in children. When children are playing there is a sense of ease and willingness. There is courage and sincerity. There is no "perfect" in their play. As we grow, play becomes less important. Routine replaces spontaneity. Ego overrides a willingness to take risks and make mistakes. When we cling too tightly to the idea of perfection, it strangles our ability to trust ourselves.
One of my first responses to hearing that I have wisdom and that I can trust it was disbelief. How could I know anything? What sort of life experience do I have that endows me with any wisdom? I learned that my truth is valuable. We all feel sadness. We all experience joy. We know what heartbreak and loss feel like. We know what it is to feel belonging. These shared human experiences, these threads of connection, are my definition of higher power. We have all been endowed with them and are unique expressions of these universal truths. Connect to the truest version of you and unlock the ability to connect with the universe.
So far we've done the work on five chakras. Each one allows us to another mask we wear, revealing the raw form of who we are that lives underneath. Scary? Yes. Worth it? Definitely. When we start to let go of the rigid control over life and outcomes and expectations, the entire universe opens itself up to us.
Mediation is one of the best ways into this new and ever changing relationship. One of the traditional stories of the yoga practice is that the movement came out of a need to find stillness. How can I move through all the discomforts of my physical and emotional body so that I can learn how to be still with myself and connect to the universal core truths? Carve out the time to be still after a physical practice; five minutes is enough. Watch your universe change.

Meditation is one of the best ways to get in touch with your inner wisdom. But did you know that meditation can look like almost anything? It doesn't have to be sitting in easy seat with eyes closed. Meditation can look like painting or writing or anything that you focus your entire energy and mind on. Journaling counts as meditation. Give yourself the time to be fully present with you.

- How do you respond when you make a mistake? Can you reframe your perceived mistake by understanding what lesson you learned?

- Do you have any perfectionist tendencies? When do they tend to show up? Why?

- When has your gut feeling been right? Did you listen to it? Why or why not?
